9/11/2001 We Will Never Forget –20 Years of Remembrance – Pastor Al
“If I then your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you then ought to wash one another’s feet ” John 13:14
This is the story of what makes America the “greatest nation on earth today” ! The legacy of a “spirit of the Lord” that calls an entire nation to rally as “one nation under God, indivisible , with liberty and justice”… in their hearts and minds. Ask yourself …. where did that “spirit of unity and fellowship come from?” I say it is divinely inspired by the “grace of God”…. given freely to those who choose to believe in Him”!
Oswald Chambers wrote” it means being very selectively God’s in any “haphazard circumstance which He engineers”. The characteristics we manifest in our daily “ordinary lives” are an indication of who we will be in these moments of testing. As individuals , as a people, as a nation.
The things that Jesus did daily, when He walked amongst us, consisted of all of this. He did the most common place of things along the way to becoming God’s solution for the sins of man, for all people of the whole world. He sat with friends, he cooked for them, He mourned at their loss with them. He even washed their feet !! The daily life of how we do the menial tasks , washing dishes, cleaning the house, going to work, reveal who we will be , when God calls us for “such a time as this” The 911 moments in our lives, or in our nation. And it takes God almighty within each of us to do these same menial things! So that we are prepared for the “extraordinary moments of life that God engineers”!
My life changed forever, 20 years ago, when I answered the call of God, as He sent me to Ground Zero for one entire year… to “wash my brothers feet”. To comfort and pour out God’s love to an entire nation during times of distress. I realized after the fact, that God was preparing me during the “daily menial times of life”. What I learned then and continue today to understand, is that God daily shows Himself to us in our daily circumstances. And He puts in our life people who we would otherwise not pay any mind to. And He asks us to “wash their feet”. He asks us to show them the same love He has exhibited to us . And some say “oh I will do that later, when I get on the foreign mission field”. If we wait to build munitions after we are sent to the battle field , “we will get killed” !
We have to go the second mile with God each and every day. Some of us “give out after the first 10 yards“, because God compels us to go where we can not see the way. If you say to God today… ” I will wait till the bigger need arises” . In a time of crises, you will do nothing, because you won’t be prepared !
This is the lesson of 911, for such a time as this. Are you preparing daily to serve in times of crisis? Our nation needs it , people depend on it. God is waiting for you to “step up daily” and answer His call ” How will we respond?
